Eid al Adha

The image of how a certain place feels like, or the way it looks, has been created over a period of time, not just by our own act of seeing but a cumulative deposits of many images of the subject that inform and prejudice our knowledge. The racial and ethnic profiling has been rooted in the same stereotypes and relies on the same image-banks that have been built in our memory since the invasion of the reproduced image. By allowing myself to be carried by the crowds exiting from the Al Aksa mosque, I have given myself the illusion of re-creating the conditions of the early meetings between the photogrphic medium and the Islam. By using the early postcard and magazine reproduction technique of photogravure, I am re-tracing the path of the orientalist origin of our perception of others.
